Update: It appears Trump has quickly removed the tweet. It lasted around 2 minutes before being pulled.
Right to fear?
Many people feared the possibility of electing Donald Trump into office. This fear has begun to prove itself worthy as Trump moves closer to taking Obama’s seat in the white house.
During the 2016 U.S. presidential election, republican party nominee Donald Trump had people up in arms over his alarming tweets. Now that he will be assuming office, these tweets could have some serious backlash. At 4:21 PM on Christmas eve, he published, arguably, his most frightening tweet to date. He wrote “Mexico allowing illegals across our American border could become grounds for military action.
The reality of potential military conflict between the united states and one of it’s closest trading partners has taken a step closer to becoming actuality. An out of the blue threat like this is irresponsible to say the least. It could show a significant as well as unstable surges in the stock market. The U.S. being the cornerstone of a stable stock market means that it could even scare investors away. This would do the exact opposite of ‘Making America great again’. Many companies, however, would lose their incentive to produce U.S. goods in Mexico but any rational person would agree the cost is far too high.
This is all not to mention the physical effects of going into combat against a nation bordering your own. People in southern states like Texas would have to consider evacuation from their home towns. The threat of a potential strike on American soil hasn’t been present since the Cuban missile crisis. U.S. troops moving into Mexico would be hell on earth.
What can we do?
Donald Trump has easily proven himself unfit for office before even entering it. Electing this man was absolutely irresponsible of Trump supporters. Don’t get it confused though, this isn’t to say Hillary Clinton was a good alternative either. Americans need to take their politics, government, and elections much more seriously because the consequences could be dire. Nobody in Germany expected Hitler to become a ruthless dictator when they elected him. Stay mindful.
